Taiwan's National Exhibition - in the connecting apartments of the Doges Palace |
Taiwan's exhibition, "Township of Domestic Parts" colonised the apartments of the Palazzo delle Prigoni (next door to the Doges Palace), claiming its territory with a colourful and playful community of structures within the historic and austere stone chambers.
The exhibition headed up by Jimenez Lai, sought to separate and distinguish the activities of everyday life and domesticity, and to propose unique structures specifically for each activity's use.
Here the curators addressed the Biennale theme set by Rem Koolhass, by establishing the fundamental components for living. These are identified, analysed and redressed to create an ensemble of new structures at a human scale, which seek to focus our attention as users on each task that we undertake and how we may experience it. The separation of these tasks create an internal domestic township, with each activity claiming its own physical structure and expression, and establishing its own psychical relationship to the other forms.
