National Pavilion of Kosovo: Visibility (Imposed Modernity)
Located within the Arsenale, Kosovo's national exhibition presented a towering installation made up of traditional 3 legged stools, "Shkembl".
The towering structure of over 700 traditional stools combined with a wall of photos depicting the destroyed buildings of Kosovo, communicate a direct reaction against Modernism.
The exhibition communicates that modernism in architecture was something that had been imposed upon the country by external parties through shifts in the country's social and political development over the last 100 years, rather than having been driven and informed by their own culture; further suggesting that their cultural identity has been lost in the process of modernisation.
The installation invites visitors inside the installation towering some 4 meters, and to take a seat on one of the stools which echo as a reminder of the traditions and cultures of the country which have been affected.
