Fog, smog, statues and seagulls
Notes on a city: Venice
Icy vail - over the Grand Canal in Venice |
The liquid city drops its icy white vail over winter; shrouding the city in a blanket of white. The haze of the summer smog rising from its neighbouring mainland industry is replaced with a falling thick white curtain.
Terracotta roof-scapes; the life of seagulls |
The seagulls and statues do remain; the former weaving endlessly; seamlessly linking the lagoon, land and air; greeting the statues and saints of the city's many churches to then perch casually on terracotta chimney pots.
From blackskivvy's vantage point, in an attic by the Rialto, all elements are perceived - a secret landscape of terracotta roofs, like urban meadows with a soundscape of bells and the anonymous grumble of people; a landscape which belies their barely visible sharp crevices which give way to the dense maze of streets and life below.
