Satellite Exhibitions: PLANTA - Fundacio Sorigue

Conservatori di Musica
With the sounds of piano rehearsals spilling into the piazza below

Venice becomes a porous city during the Biennale. The many collateral exhibitions and national Pavilion exhibitions adapt and use the many palazzi and other spaces within the city which are otherwise out of public reach, and allow a visitor to come across many exhibitions either intentionally or by accident; fluidly like the lagoon city.

One such exhibition is Planta, which is currently on show at the conservatorium of music. On the upper floor in a baroque gilded and marbled room, and with the sounds of piano rehearsals in adjacent rooms, a large 10m long model dominates and presents an architectural proposal for a multi disciplinary research space near a quarry.

Exhibition

It's a moulded terrain of scuplted forms, recalling its quarry context. Its form has been carved and elevated with voids. Its tactile and organic form contrasts with its exhibition surrounds of baroque and fluted architecture. An adjoining sound-scape installation and large projections show other architectural influences from the surrounding quarry site.
